Newsletter for the month of April 2010

Dear devotees, I am glad to introduce one of our best volunteers through this newsletter, Chetna Atreya.  Energy, enthusiasm and excitement are the traits of Chetna and she is part of a vibrant wing of our temple - Cultural Committee.

Chetna has been an active volunteer at our temple for past few years. Her interest for Indian culture, traditions and passion for stage performances lead her to take active role in cultural activities and festivities at temple. Chetna and her team have organized many spectacular events like Holi and Diwali. These events are crafted with utmost care to preserve and promote Indian culture and traditions while providing fun and fervor. She has been instrumental in putting together exceptional shows attracting large turnouts for temple events. Chetna and her team have motivated many young and energetic talents to participate and perform at temple events as devotees and artistes. While these cultural events showcase our rich traditions to our diverse community, they also bring well needed revenues to the temple through sponsorships, anand bazar etc.

Simply put, Chetna is a dedicated devotee, committed volunteer and a silent soldier!

Chetna is a housewife lives in Maple Grove with her husband Naman Atreya and two beautiful daughters Keerti and Khushi. She has an MBA degree and loves to help the community and aspires to continue serving the temple, to the best of her abilities.

The gift of volunteerism is contagious ... let's embrace and spread it with passion!

Volunteer of the month - Chetna Atreya
Dear Devotees, I am Chetna Atreya, serving on the Cultural Committee at Hindu Mandir, Maple Grove, MN.

The Atreya Family has been very actively involved in the Mandir since the very beginning. My father-in-law, Mr. Rakesh Atreya is a former President of the Hindu Mandir and my mother-in- law, Mrs. Lata Atreya has been involved with the religious events. My husband, Naman has also been a former Executive Committee member as the Editor for the Mandir Patrika. I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful family who has been selflessly serving our Temple.

I am committed to the Hindu Mandir for organizing the Cultural events, on the auspicious occasions of Holi and Diwali festivals, along with my excellent team mates - Madhu Jain and Sangeeta Chopra. As a team, the three of us have been very successful in organizing some spectacular Holi and Diwali shows during our term. We have tried our best to bring forth the enormous wealth of talent in our community while raising record amounts of funds for the Mandir through these great shows. We have put our best foot forward by putting our heart and soul in the service of our Mandir and in an attempt to preserve and embellish Hindu tradition and cultural heritage.
Our main goals for these shows have always been -
  • Display India's magnificent, diverse and splendid heritage to our community.
  • Stage it in a marvelous manner and leave the audience in admiration and appreciation for the profundity and richness of Indian culture and tradition.
In the upcoming years, we long to bring before our vibrant community some great shows and will not miss a chance to enthrall and enchant our wonderful high-spirited audience with some great talents amongst us. Like the shows in the past, the theme for the upcoming shows / events will also be inspired from one of the best qualities of India and her expert balance of different cultures. India's collective psyche has successfully struck equilibrium between what is old and new, modern and traditional, physical and spiritual. We promise to capture the spirit of this balance and coexistence in our cultural programs, exhibitions and vendor participation.

My message to all the devotees of the temple is that I would like to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your faith and trust in me and my team members and we promise to uphold your expectations and serve our great temple selflessly, in the years to come.

Sincerely,
Chetna Atreya

Sages & Seers - About Sri Vallabhacharya.

Sri Vallabhacharya (1479 - 1531) was a devotional philosopher, who founded the Pushti sect in India, following the philosophy of Shuddha advaita (Pure Non-dualism).

He is regarded as an Acharya and Guru within the Vaishnava traditions as promulgated and prescribed by the Vedanta philosophy. He is often associated with Vishnuswami the founder of Rudra Sampradaya. Within Indian Philosophy he is known as the writer of sixteen 'stotras' (tracts) and produced several commentaries on the Bhagavata Purana, which describes the many lilas (pastimes) of the avatar, Krishna. Vallabha Acharya occupies a unique place in Indian culture as a scholar, a philosopher and devotional (bhakti) preacher. He is widely considered as the last of the four great Vaishnava Acharyas who established the various Vaishnava schools of thought based on Vedantic philosophy, the other three (preceding him) being Ramanujacharya, Madhvacharya and Nimbarkacharya. He is especially known as a lover and a propagator of Bhagavata Dharma. He was born in Champaranya in Raipur, in Madhya Pradesh. He was a Telugu Brahmin and a contemporary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He is regarded as an Avatara of Agni.
Vallabha was married at Varanasi and his wife's name was Mahalakshmi. He had two sons.

The important works of Vallabha are Vyasa Sutra Bhashya, Jaimini Sutra Bhasya, Bhagavata Tika Subodhini, Pushti Pravala Maryada and Siddhanta Rahasya. All these books are in Sanskrit. Vallabha has written many books in Brij Bhasha also.

Vallabha laid great stress on Pushti (grace) and Bhakti (devotion). Maha Pushti is the highest grace or Anugraha which helps the aspirant to attain Godhead. Things come out of the Akshara (Satchidananda) like sparks from fire. These are his salient teachings.

Vallabha's followers have built a temple on the spot of his birth at Champaranya. This temple is very popular and is much visited by them as a place of pilgrimage.
